By attacking his statue and his memory, these protestors are also denigrating ALL those foreign soldiers under the UN command, who came to fight alongside South Korea in that war. There were men and women from more than 20 nations involved, including my own. Tens of thousands of them gave their lives so that South Korea should remain free and independent.

The group rejected silence about North Korean human rights for the sake of economic cooperation or to avoid upsetting the North, and affirmed its belief that only international cooperation and active efforts to improve human rights in the North can lead to peaceful unification. It added the Bar Association’s 5,000 members prayed that North Koreans will soon see an end to public executions and forced labor camps.

A high-ranking Seoul official said in Beijing, asking not to be named, that the government does not think there is any possibility of providing electricity and a light-water reactor to North Korea at the same time. Thus, the six nations have to discuss providing a new reactor to the energy-starved country.
